The seasonal-home paradox
Many Costa Smeralda properties live three months a year. For the other nine they stay closed, often far from towns: that is exactly when cameras, alarm and a little automation are needed. But all these systems need one thing to be useful: an internet connection that works even when nobody is there.
A fixed line, where it exists, costs all year even if you do not use it. "Camera" 4G SIMs last as long as the credit. Starlink changed the equation with flexible plans.
What a closed house really needs
- Remote video surveillance: live view and a notification when a camera detects a person or vehicle.
- Intrusion alarm: door and window sensors, siren, phone notification and, if you wish, to the caretaker or property manager.
- Essential automation: anti-damp heating, scheduled lights, flood and power-loss sensors.
All of this uses very little bandwidth: notifications weigh nothing, and you open a video stream only when needed. No need for a 4K-streaming connection.
The Starlink winter plan
With Starlink you can switch, in the months the house is closed, to a minimal-bandwidth plan from €10 a month: enough to keep cameras, alarm and home automation online. When you return, you reactivate a full plan from €35 a month, with no penalties and no long-term commitment. The detail that makes the difference: who is watching?
A camera nobody watches is of little use. That is why we suggest combining the systems with remote monitoring: if the connection drops, an access point goes down or the alarm loses its link, we receive an alert and intervene, often remotely. Before the season we run the pre-opening check: you arrive and find everything working.
